AROUND 500 Žilina citizens have started an open campaign against their town's mayor and chairman of the Slovak National Party chairman, Ján Slota, the daily SME reported.
Slota did not attend the meeting despite being invited. He did, however, send a message saying that elections are getting near and if he is re-elected as mayor he will ask those “hundreds of people to leave town”.
One hundred public figures as well as hundreds of others have signed a petition asking the mayor to resign.
