Slovak Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda and Foreign Minister Eduard Kukan were among the leaders of 25 European Union member states who signed the European Constitutional Treaty in Rome October 29.
The signing ceremony took place in the recently restored hall, Sala degli Orazi e Curiazi at the Palazzo dei Conservatori, on Capitoline Hill, the TASR news wire wrote.
Also in attendance were outgoing European Commission (EC) President Romano Prodi, incoming EC President Jose Manuel Barroso, European Parliament President Josep Borrell, as well as diplomats and officials from EU candidate states.
Speeches were given by the mayor of Rome, Walter Veltroni, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, the former and former presidents of the European Council - Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende and Irish Taoiseach (prime minister) Bertie Ahern - as well as Prodi, Barroso and Borrell.
