Neither the Slovak Embassy in London not the consular department of the Slovak Foreign Affairs Ministry failed to fulfil their duties vis-à-vis the case of Ivana Boórová, whose two children were taken into care by British social workers and were assigned to be put up for adoption, according to the results of inspections recently carried out at the two institutions, the TASR newswire reported.
The inspections, which took place on September 24 and October 19, were ordered by Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčák. The ministry’s general inspectorate focused on the period between July 2, 2010, i.e. the day when the ministry officially learned about the case for the first time, and September 23, 2012.
Though the inspectors did not confirm that there had been failures by the embassy, they did say that much could be improved. For example, it found that employees of the embassy should help the consulate department, which is overloaded with work, more, the Sme daily reported.
The case of Ivana Boórová caused outrage in Slovakia in mid September after media outlets reported that her two children were in line to be given up for adoption after being taken into care in the United Kingdom nearly two years ago on grounds of alleged maltreatment by their parents. The publication of the case resulted in several protests in front of the British Embassy in Bratislava. The matter is still to be resolved, TASR wrote.
