Slovak commercial aeroplanes will have special status in Hungarian airports and vice versa, the countries' two transport ministers agreed September 6.

Hungarian airports will now be open to Slovak air carriers and companies under the same payment conditions charged to Hungarian companies. Hungarian companies will enjoy similar advantages when flying to Slovakia. Slovak Transport Minister Jozef Macejko said the move will widen the range of air carriers that can operate and fly in Slovakia, making "competition on the market tougher."

The agreement was signed during the two-day visit of Hungarian President Arpad Göncz to Slovakia September 6 and 7. While in Bratislava, Göncz held meetings with President Rudolf Schuster, Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda, and leaders of the Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK).
