Slovakia's dominant fixed-line operator, Slovak Telecom, will begin offering its products and services under a new brand name, T-Com, as of March 8.

The company is changing into a holding company known as Slovak Telekom, the last phase in a re-branding drive that began when it changed its name from Slovenské Telekomunikácie to Slovak Telecom in January 2004, the news wire SITA wrote.

ST President Miroslav Majoroš said that the current re-branding costs are higher than those of the brand change in 2004, but did not reveal details.

Majoroš said the introduction of the T-Com brand on the Slovak market reflected the strategy of ST's majority owner, Deutsche Telekom, to support the development of broad band internet and IP-based products and services.

Deutsche Telekom AG owns a 51-percent stake in Slovak Telecom. The Slovak Transport and Telecom Ministry controls 31 percent, while the FNM state privatization agency has 15 percent.
