The registered unemployment rate in Slovakia increased 0.23 percentage points on a monthly basis at the end of January 2010 to 12.89 percent, according to data provided by the Central Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family, the SITA newswire wrote.
Labour offices registered 346,379 unemployed people immediately ready to take up jobs at the end of January; up 10,889 persons from a month ago and up 107,127 persons from a year ago.
The jobless rate grew constantly from October 2008 until July 2009, SITA wrote. In October 2008, the labor offices reported the unemployment rate at 7.51 percent. The number of job seekers then represented 196,000 people. The number of jobless persons grew each month until the end of July 2009. Following a moderate decrease in August, the joblessness rate again grew in September. It again dropped slightly in October to remain on the same level in November.
