The Central Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family (ÚPSVAR) reports that Slovakia’s unemployment rate declined at the beginning of this year, but is now increasing again, the Sme daily wrote in its Wednesday, September 7, issue.
The report sends a different message from Statistics Office (ŠÚ) data which suggest that the unemployment rate is at its lowest for the past two years.
UniCredit Bank analyst Dávid Dereník says that ŠÚ data are somewhat delayed, and thus any current growth in unemployment will be reflected only over the next three months.
Tatra Banka analyst Juraj Valachy told Sme that the current unemployment numbers would be better if it were not for public-sector layoffs.
