Forty-five years ago the armies of five Warsaw Pact countries (the Soviet Union, East Germany, Poland, Hungary and Bulgaria) invaded their supposed ally Czechoslovakia in a Moscow-directed move to quash the reforms often referred to as the Prague Spring. To mark the events Slovakia has organised several events.
Events include the laying of wreaths at memorials, and the special exhibition held in Galéria F7, the SITA newswire wrote. The public-service broadcaster Radio and Television of Slovakia (RTVS) also modified its television and radio broadcasts to include documentary reports on the occupation and representatives of the Prague Spring, SITA wrote.
Today marks the 45th anniversary of the Warsaw Pact invasion. Many major media outlets have published stories commemorating the occasion.
