SLOVAKIA ranked 54th among 127 countries included in the latest Index of Economic Freedom (IEF) prepared by the Vancouver-based Fraser Institute, and based on 2003 data, the TASR news agency reported.
Ivan Švejna, of the F A Hayek Foundation, which cooperates with the Fraser Institute on the IEF, said that Slovakia moved three places up compared to last year and put itself among states having a medium or higher degree of economic freedom.
In the 10-point rating, Slovakia scored 6.6 points, which was 0.1 better year-on-year. Honk Kong leads the chart with 8.7 points.
IEF evaluates 21 categories. Slovakia came worst in the category of state interventions to the economy – as low as 110th – but was among the top 10 in terms of the openness of its market.
