SLOVAK PRESIDENT Ivan Gašparovič says that the philosophy of Slovakia's foreign policy is determined by the country's membership in the EU and NATO and by its non-permanent presence on the UN Security Council.
Regarding Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico's planned trips to Libya and Venezuela, the president said he understood that there might be different opinions on solutions to various foreign policy issues and on starting new relationships, yet he insisted that Slovakia should not forget to behave according to EU principles.
"I am aware that the prime minister is entering into foreign relations that have not been traditional in the recent past. I don't want to put too much stress on the prime minister's planned visits but I think that the coordination of opinions between the cabinet, parliament and the president will be necessary," said Gašparovič.
