Official Development Aid (ODA) provided by Slovakia amounted to €65.4 million in 2008, which represents 0.102 percent of gross national income (GNI), according to a document released by the government on May 7, as reported by the TASR newswire.
Slovakia, as an EU-member state, has pledged to increase the level of its ODA to 0.17 percent of GNI by 2010 and to 0.33 percent by 2015, TASR wrote. The aid in 2008 represents an increase from the previous year, as ODA in 2007 stood at €54.8 million, which was 0.093 percent of GNI.
The largest contribution in 2008 went to the joint EU budget. Slovakia also provided humanitarian aid to 13 countries around the world. The most significant individual amount of humanitarian assistance (€984,000) went to Chinese territories hit by last year's massive earthquake. TASR
