THE SLOVAK government signed the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse on June 10, 2009 in order to protect children in Slovakia and to foster national and international cooperation in this area, the SITA newswire reported.
By signing the convention Slovakia has agreed to take measures to make sure that children will be knowledgeable about the risks of sexual exploitation and sexual abuse as well about how to protect themselves against these crimes at the primary and secondary school levels.
The convention also binds parties to support the media so that it provides appropriate information on all aspects of sexual exploitation and sexual abuse while being mindful of media independence and freedom of the press. In addition, Slovakia is expected to launch phone or internet help lines, SITA wrote.
