Slovakia will send one soldier to the NATO Centre for Excellence of Military Medicine in Budapest (COEMED) as the parliament approved an update of the country’s military representation in NATO and EU bodies and military structures on Thursday, September 8.
The Defence Ministry stated in a report that the Slovak army participates in COEMED in order to develop the abilities of military medicine with international cooperation between NATO-member states and to apply the principle of reciprocity concerning a post occupied by the Hungarian side at the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Centre of Excellence in Trenčín (western Slovakia), the TASR newswire reported.
Expenditures related to the Slovak soldier at COEMED, which came into being as an international military organization in October 2009, will be covered by the Defence Ministry’s budget.
At the moment, a total of 79 Slovak soldiers are operating within NATO and EU structures, TASR wrote.
