A survey by the European Union's Statistical Office shows that the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Slovakia fell from 10.1 percent in January to 9.9 percent in February, the SITA newswire wrote.
Slovakia still has the highest unemployment rate in the EU, but that rate is on a significant and constant decline. In February 2007, it was 11.5 percent.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in the 27-member EU declined 0.1 percentage point to 6.7 percent in February. In year-on-year terms, it went down by 0.7 percentage points. The 15-member Eurozone posted unchanged unemployment rate from January of 7.1 percent. In a year-on-year comparison, it decreased 0.5 percentage points.
Among the countries that provided unemployment data to Eurostat, 22 posted a decline in joblessness rate, four registered growth and one reported no change.
The Netherlands had the lowest joblessness rate in February (2.7 percent), followed by Cyprus (3.6 percent) and Austria (4.1 percent). Spain posted the second highest unemployment rate (9 percent), while Poland ended up third with 8 percent. SITA
