Rudolf Schuster, the first Slovak president elected by the people, is the country’s most popular president, a poll shows.
Schuster became the Slovak president on June 15, 1999. He sought reelection in 2004, but didn’t make it to the second round.
According to Hlas voters, Schuster was the best president.
Zuzana Čaputová, the first female Slovak president whose term will end in mid-June, is the second most popular Slovak president, according to the Focus poll. She is very popular with Progresívne Slovensko and SaS voters. Čaputová used to be a Progresívne Slovensko member before she was elected president.
Ivan Gašparovič came third in the poll. He was elected president in 2004 and reelected in 2009. This former head of state is the most popular among Smer voters. Smer supported Gašparovič during the 2004 and 2009 presidential elections. Gašparovič was replaced by Andrej Kiska in 2014. Kiska came out as the least popular president.
Michal Kováč, the first Slovak president, received 8 percent in the poll. The parliament elected him president on February 15, 1993. Kováč died in 2016.
The poll was carried out from March 7 to 11, 2024. The agency surveyed 1,010 respondents.
