In June, the National Labour Office (NUP) registered 387,561 unemployed ready to take up jobs immediately, a jobless rate of 14.60 percent. The unemployment rate dipped by 0.21 percentage points month-on-month. This is a 3.02 percent decrease in comparison with June 2002.
The total number of registered unemployed including persons on sick leave or those attending re-qualification courses was 427,640 last month, down by 5,469 or 1.26 percent from May, 2003.
The labour offices registered 34,448 new job seekers in June.
