Slovakia’s unemployment rate rose again in December after remaining unchanged the month earlier, increasing from 12.40 percent in November to 12.66 percent, the Centre of Labour, Social Affairs and Family announced on January 18, as reported by the SITA newswire.
Labour offices registered 373,413 benefit claimants, which represented a year-on-year rise of 138,183.
According to the opposition Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ), unemployment in Slovakia is growing much faster than the average in EU countries. This statement was made at a January 18 briefing by head of SDKÚ’s crisis team, Eugen Jurzyca. “It is more than twice as fast. Unemployment in Slovakia is also growing faster than unemployment in our neighbouring countries that are member states of the European Union,” he told SITA. SITA
