Piano, the subscription system involving several Slovak internet media, has been successful since it was launched in early May, with total revenue reaching more than €40,000 in the first month, Piano director Tomáš Bella announced on June 21, the TASR newswire wrote.
"The drop in the number of readers has been lower than expected. We assume that we'll meet our goal of attracting 1 percent of the internet population by the end of the year without any problems," Bella said, as quoted by the TASR newswire, adding that people understand the concept of a subscription thanks to cable television.
"It appears that we've also hit the target with the fee of €2.90 per month," said Bella, adding that it is obviously more convenient for readers to pay for several websites together than for individual portals separately. Bella noted that according to an audit carried out by AIMonitor, the websites concerned didn't record any drop in the number of people reading their free content in May, while three portals out of seven even recorded increases.
