Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič appointed eight new rectors of four public, one state and three private universities on Monday, January 17, the TASR newswire wrote.

He presented letters of appointment to Lev Bukovský (International School of Management Slovakia in Prešov), Václav Krajník (Police Academy in Bratislava), Vladimír Krčméry (St. Alžbeta University of Healthcare and Social Work in Bratislava), Marián Mesároš (Security Management University in Košice), Karol Mičieta (Comenius University in Bratislava), Emil Pilipčinec (University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice), Rudolf Sivák (Economy University in Bratislava) and Stanislav Stankóci (Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava).

Sivák and Pilipčinec are becoming rectors for their second terms. The newly-appointed rectors will take up their posts as of February for four-year terms, with the law allowing them to serve only a maximum of two terms.
