THE GOVERNING Smer party would have won the parliamentary elections if they were held in September.
A recent public opinion poll conducted by the Median SK agency showed that Prime Minister Robert Fico's party would gain 42.6-percent voter support, the SITA newswire wrote.
The runner-up would have been the co-ruling Slovak National Party (SNS), with 13.7 percent, followed by the opposition Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ), with 12.8 percent.
The ruling coalition Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS) would have come fourth with 12.4 percent, followed by the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) with 7.8 percent, and the Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) with 7 percent.
No other party would have met the five-percent threshold needed to win seats in parliament.
The poll was carried out in August and September on a sample of 988 respondents aged 18 to 79.
