The convention is set for October 17 and SMK is expected to adopt a party programme for the future. “Within its framework, we want to present our three identities: to be citizens of the Slovak Republic, of Hungarian ethnicity, and Europeans,” said Csáky for the TASR.

He expects the November 14 elections to regional authorities in November to be acrimonious given the fact that former SMK chief Béla Bugár has founded a new party, Most-Híd.

“We have to bear in mind that we will be vying with a new party for the same voters. That's why we will go head-to-head in some districts,” he said. The executive approved the candidacy of 105 members in five regions, while the party will put up its candidate Agnes Biro for governor in Nitra region. This year 167 members quit the party while 234 new members joined. TASR
