The opposition ethnic-Hungarian SMK party won't support the constitutional law on a balanced state budget proposed earlier this week by fellow opposition party, the SDKÚ, SMK spokesperson Eva Dunajská said on October 7.
"The proposal was submitted by SDKÚ representatives without being discussed with other parties in advance – not even with SMK experts," reads the statement.
Dunajská said the SMK sees too much unpredictability and risk in the near future in financial and economic developments, making such decisions difficult.
The SDKÚ announced on Ocotber 6 that it would try to gather support for its proposal among individual political parties and planned to submit the final version to parliament in November. Party vice-chairman and former finance minister Ivan Mikloš expects that 2011 will be the first year the state economy will operate without a deficit.
