The former Slovak National Party (SNS) first vice-chair, Anna Belousovová, who is currently only a rank-and-file party member and MP, said on January 31 that she will not attend the party’s presidium session on February 2 that is to be held to take disciplinary action against her, the TASR newswire reported.
"I won't attend. First, all of them have already made an agreement to expel me, and secondly, having someone say, after all those scandals, that it's me who's damaging the reputation of the party simply sounds ludicrous to me," she told TASR.
"Two people are needed for any discussion," she said, adding that it would not make any sense to talk to the presidium under the current circumstances. "There are scandals popping up left and right – the sale of emission quotas for one cent, the Gemerský mlyn case, public speeches made by not-so-sober SNS representatives, but it's me who's damaging SNS's reputation in public?" Belousovová stated.
She added that if she is expelled she will remain in parliament as an independent MP.
"With respect to the disciplinary code and statutes, party members shouldn't make public criticism of their own ranks that damages the name and standing of the party," SNS vice-chair Rafael Rafaj told TASR. "It isn't only about opinions but also about steps she took that flew in the face of the party statutes," he said, saying that Belousovová may well be expelled from the party. "That's one of the options," he said.
