Speaker of Parliament Pavol Paška has decided that the absence of independent MP Luboš Micheľ from nine sessions of the Slovak Parliament in April 2009 won’t be excused, Paška’s spokesman Jozef Plško told the TASR newswire on May 5.
According to Plško, now that Paška has announced his decision - pursuant to the law on rules of procedure of the Slovak Parliament, and the law on income conditions of some of Slovakia's constitutional officials - the Office of the Slovak Parliament will arrange for Micheľ to lose his claims on the income and blanket compensations that he would normally be entitled to as an MP for the period in question.
Micheľ, who was a top-flight football referee when elected to Parliament in 2006 but has since retired, is said to have spent the past week in Ukraine doing promotional work. In 2008 the speaker refused to excuse Micheľ’s absence from eight sessions of the Slovak Parliament in October, and seven sessions in November. TASR
