Despite a recent deal between Slovak gas utility Slovenský Plynárenský Priemysel (SPP) and its main supplier, Russia’s Gazprom, securing better terms for the Slovak firm’s purchases of natural gas purchases over the next 20 years, the company does not intend to reduce the prices that it charges household customers, the Sme daily reported.
“The new alteration of the contract will revise the purchase price to reflect the actual development of market prices for gas more,” said Peter Bednár from SPP, adding that the company would not publish any details of the new deal.
Despite the better terms, the company said it did not see any reason why it should change the prices of natural gas charged to households. It said the reduction of the prices it pays Gazprom would merely reduce its existing losses, according to Bednár.
However, the final word on household prices will lie with the Regulatory Office for Network Industries (ÚRSO) after it has seen the new agreement.
