THE STATE is interested in buying a 49 percent stake of EuroTel Bratislava, one of the two mobile operators in the country.
Telecom minister Pavol Prokopovič confirmed that the state wanted to buy the stake from its US holder, Atlantic West BV. According to Prokopovič, the purchase of the portion of EuroTel would increase the price of the state's shares in Slovak Telecom (ST), a monopoly fixed-line operator, which the state would like to sell in the future.
The Slovak economic daily Hospodárske noviny wrote on December 18 that, according to Prokopovič, the EuroTel stake would be purchased for about Sk13 billion (€316.37 million) from ST money.
