THE STATE might reimburse those landowners who sold their land intended for the KIA site for Sk140 per square metre, the daily Národná obroda reported.

The Economy Ministry proposes to pay the owners the difference between what they paid and what those owners who refused to sell their land for the lower price are to receive.

On April 20, the Slovak Cabinet agreed that the state would pay the asking price of Sk350 (€8.80) per square metre, which is roughly Sk200 more than the official evaluation price.

Economy Minister Pavol Rusko said that it all depends on the attitude of the ruling coalition partners.

Rusko proposes to pay the reimbursement from the profits of state-run companies, which last year exceeded Sk31 billion (€789 million).

However, according to the SITA news wire, Finance Minister Ivan Mikloš finds the idea of compensating the landowners who sold their plots at Sk140 per square metre unrealistic.

Mikloš said that based on such a move even landowners who sold their land for the PSA Peugeot Citroen could request compensation.
