THE TOTAL sales of Slovakia's telecommunications sector reached Sk53 billion (€1.4 billion) in 2004, which represented an annual growth of 10 percent.
According to the Pravda daily, mobile operators Orange Slovensko and EuroTel, and the fixed-line operator Slovak Telecom control 95 percent of the market between them.
Of this share, Orange enjoys a 39 percent share, Slovak Telecom 34 percent and EuroTel 27 percent.
Orange had 2.4 million customers last year, EuroTel 1.9 million and Slovak Telecom was third with 1.4 million. That means that eight out of 10 Slovaks have a mobile phone.
In total, 5.65 million people had a mobile phone or a fixed line in 2004.
Orange also posted the highest sales of the three last year - Sk19.2 billion (€506 million). Slovak Telecom was second with Sk16.8 billion (€442 million), and EuroTel was third with Sk13.3 billion (€350 million).
