Weeks ahead of Christmas, Bratislava has already selected its Christmas tree for this year. It has already been placed in the Main Square, the TASR newswire reported.

The 14-metre-high spruce, which is 25 years old and weighs 1,300 kilograms, was dedicated to the city by a local inhabitant from Rača, one of Bratislava boroughs.

The 2019 Christmas tree will grace the Bratislava square with its dazzling lights on November 22, when the Christmas markets begin.

Christmas markets in the capital are said to be eco-friendly and zero-waste this year, with only returnable glasses and compostable dishes to be used. The markets will end exactly a month later, on December 22.
