Court toughens sentence for Acorda's killer

Juraj Hossu, who admitted in front of the court to killing Filipino expat Henry Acorda back in mid-May of this year, will spend nine years in a minimum security prison.

The Bratislava Regional Court has cancelled the May verdict of the Bratislava I District Court, which sent Hossu behind bars for six years and ordered alcohol addiction therapy for him.

Theinitial decision was challenged by the prosecutor's office in late May 2019, which demanded a stricter punishment. The September 17 verdict is effective, the TASR newswire reported.

Hossu, who has expressed his regret,attacked Acorda in the early morning on May 26, 2018. The Filipino expat was trying to prevent the sexual harassment of two women by Hossu, who was under the influence. The attack took place on Obchodná Street in Bratislava. Acorda died in a hospital a few days following the incident.
