Three men were sentenced for a Slovak gangland murder

The three defendants in the 2004 murder of Peter Čongrády were refused their appeals and sentenced to many years in prison.

Members of the Appellate Bratislava Regional Court’s panel sentenced three men on September 11, 2018.

They turned down the appeals of three defendants - Peter Holáň, Dušan Šurina and Sergej Miňajlenko – and gave them long prison sentences, the TASR newswire wrote.

They were convicted of having organised and executed the murder of Peter Čongrády, original head of the Bratislava gang Sýkorovci, in 2004. The appellate court thus confirmed the Bratislava I District Court verdict from February 2018.

Čongrády was shot dead at the age of 36 on September 9, 2004, in front of a pizzeria on Pečnianska Street in the Petržalka borough of Bratislava. He was leaving the pizzeria and entering an armoured Mercedes parked in front of the building when he was killed by a dozens shots.
