Labour Minister Viera Tomanová will stay in her post following the failed no-confidence vote against her in the wee hours of September 5. Of 138 MPs present, as many as 60 MPs voted for it, but 78 against.
The no-confidence motion was proposed by representatives of the SDKÚ-DS, ethnic-Hungarian SMK and Christian Democrats (KDH) on August 30, who summoned an extraordinary parliamentary meeting for the vote.
The reasons for the dismissal were unprofessional and immoral conduct and cronyism. The charges stem from a Sk1.5-million subsidy she granted to an organization belonging to Smer that hasn't been paying social insurance contributions or taxes. Tomanová has also been criticised for efforts to open up the second (capitalization) pillar of the pension plan that is indirectly controlled by private pension-savings companies (DSSes). TASR
