Former journalist and ex-agent of the Slovak Information Service (SIS) intelligence agency, Peter Tóth, confirmed that he acted as an anonymous witness in the case of the murder of investigative journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kušnírová. He stated this in a video published on Facebook.

He stressed that he will not be an anonymous witness anymore, and will speak under his name as regular witness.

“The testimony of a witness under their own identity has more weight in a criminal prosecution and I want Kuciak’s murderers to be punished,” he said, explaining that he wants to help law enforcement bodies.

Journalists were monitored

After some information leaked from the investigation file, several media outlets pointed out that Tóth is an anonymous witness. However, he denied it until now.

In a video, he stressed that he is only a witness and refutes any direct links to the murder.

“If I had known about the planning of Ján Kuciak’s murder, he and Martina Kušnírová would still be alive,” he said.

He confirmed that he mediated the monitoring of journalists, but he did not conduct any monitoring himself. Kuciak was monitored at the turn of September and October 2017, several months before the murder. Tóth denies that it could be linked with the murder.

He also stresses that he is a witness in the case, and not the accused.
