POLICE HAVE charged several Transport Ministry officials with misusing classified information in a railways procurement scandal this summer that saw the dismissal of Transport Minister Jozef Macejko.
Apart from Macejko himself, deputy Minister Michal Balog and head of office Peter Klučka were also charged.
Former Czechoslovak Trade Minister Jozef Bakšay was charged with attempted corruption of PM Mikuláš Dzurinda's brother Miroslav, who was head of a tender commission to pick a supplier of 35 new light-weight train engines for the state railways firm.
The tender was originally won by a consortium between the Swiss firm Stadler Bussnang and ŽOS Vrútky of Slovakia, but the decision was reviewed after senior ministry officials said the price bid had been almost Sk1 billion higher than a competing bid.
