The trial of a man, identified as Peter S., who at the end of January allegedly fired into the air using an airgun during a protest in Hodžovo Square in central Bratislava was adjourned until April 14 on Wednesday, February 20.
The court decided it need to view a video recording of the event but that this was not possible in the room where the trial was taking place. The prosecutor in charge asked for the airgun to be included among the evidence. The defendant said he considers the trial to be unjust; he also told the TASR newswire and other media that he has no money.
On February 20, the court heard from several witnesses, including one state police officer and one municipal police officer. Peter S. is charged with a misdemeanour, for allegedly shooting an airgun seven times during an unsanctioned street gathering. Shortly after the alleged incident, the defendant was convicted of disorderly conduct via a so-called super-fast-tracked trial at the Bratislava I District Court, the TASR newswire reported. As a result, his gun was confiscated and he was banned for one year from living in Bratislava. However, the man appealed, resulting in the current trial. If he is found guilty he could face up to three years in prison.
