TRNAVA town councillors bestowed 2009 Town Awards to eight distinguished citizens and two teams for their personal and joint contributions in improving the community, the country, and in one case, the world.
Fedor Svatý, the dean of the faculty of business management at the University of Economics in Bratislava received honorary citizenship for his lifelong activities as did Miroslav Danaj, head of the Surgery Clinic of the Trnava Teaching Hospital for his dedicated work in health care. Other award recipients were Marian and Mária Peciars, parents of seven children, for promoting family values, cellist Richard Vandra for his contributions to music, and Miroslav Trnka, co-developer of the NOD32 anti-virus software for his global contribution to IT security. The Hlohovec Multi-Functional Battalion won a team award for its help after a local fire. In addition to the main awards, honourable mentions were given to those who contributed to the town’s promotion: teacher Ján Ivan, musician Eugen Mikuláš Nemeš, the first president of the Ice-Hockey Association Ján Mitošinka and the Slovšport Trnava karate club.
