Representatives of truckers dissatisfied with the way the e-toll collection system was introduced, as well as the opposition political parties, have called upon Transport Minister Ľubomír Vážny to suspend the system’s operations because of its many flaws, the SITA newswire wrote.
The truckers suggest that the system should not be restarted before it can function properly and complain that its unreliable operation is complicating their lives.
Meeting with the transport minister on Thursday, Janaury 14, the truckers pointed to problems with the onboard units (OBUs), with the number of complaints about the toll-calculating devices exceeding 20,000. Opposition MP for the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union, SDKÚ, Stanislav Janiš suggested that the minister file a formal complaint with the system's operator, SkyToll, and demand money back.
The planned session of the parliamentary committee for economic policy to discuss the e-toll system was not held as there was no quorum, SITA wrote. Vážny said he had to verify the complaints related to OBUs. In spite of any problems or complaints, the minister said he is not considering halting the system's operation and disagrees with the demand to cancel e-tolls on parts of first-category roads. SITA
