Two more cases of A/H1N1 novel flu infection in Slovakia were confirmed by the country's chief public health officer, Ivan Rovny, on June 24 to the TASR newswire, bringing the total number of reported infections in Slovakia to six.
A woman from Bratislava, who recently returned from the US, was admitted to the Infectious Disease unit of Bratislava's Faculty Hospital on Wednesday and, according to head doctor at the ward, Vladimír Rolný, her health condition is satisfactory.
Slovakia's sixth case is an airline flight attendant from Komarno who works for Ryanair, a low-cost British airline company. The man showed the first symptoms of infection on June 18 but did not visit a doctor until June 23. After the infection was confirmed on the same day, he signed a document whereby he was urged to stay in home isolation.
However, he disobeyed the recommendation and flew from Slovakia to the United Kingdom overnight from June 23 to 24, allegedly due to work commitments. As a result, Slovakia’s Public Health Office (ÚVZ) is likely to file a criminal complaint against the flight attendant, said Rovný. If convicted, the man could face up to three years in prison for spreading a contagious disease. TASR
