The Americans had described relations between the two countries as "excellent", added Hrušovský.

During the visit Hrušovský met members of Congress to discuss the possible easing of the visa regime for Slovaks.

"It's been one of the most important visits in which Slovakia has ever been involved in terms of foreign policy," Hrušovský told reporters. A Slovak parliamentary delegation met Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum (R), an initiator of the legislation process to cancel the visa regime for Poland. Santorum assured Hrušovský that Slovakia would also be included in the initiative.
