According to a recent UVVM agency poll, if a parliamentary election had been held at the beginning of May, the governing-coalition Smer party would have won with 41.6-percent voter support.
The poll, carried out between May 1-10 on a sample of 1,083 respondents over 18 years old, showed that the co-ruling Slovak National Party and the opposition Slovak Christian and Democratic Union would have come joint second on 12 percent.
The third coalition party, the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia, received 10.4-percent support. The opposition Hungarian Coalition Party and the Christian Democrats got 10.2-percent and 7.8-percent support, respectively. No other party would have exceeded the 5-percent threshold needed to win seats in parliament.
