Vášáryová wins international award

MAGDALÉNA Vášáryová, an MP for the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) and former ambassador, has been named a winner of the Alois Mock Europe Prize.

She will receive the award on August 15 during the Days of Tolerance in Salzburg, Austria, the SDKÚ announced.

Vášáryová previously served as an ambassador of Czechoslovakia and former deputy foreign minister.

Named after the former Austrian foreign minister, the Alois Mock Europe Prize is presented for extraordinary achievements in the research, publication and literature, political leadership, organisation and economic fields, and to people who have contributed to Europe's unity. It was first presented in 2002.

Other winners include the head of the European Parliament foreign affairs committee and Slovenian Foreign Affairs Minister Dimitrij Rupel.
