Interior Minister Ladislav Pittner appointed Jan Pipta new Police President on November 2, while Jaroslav Ivor became the head of the investigation section of the Police Corps. Pittner sacked Interior Ministry spokesman Peter Ondera on the same day, and said he was "seeking" a new spokesperson. In the near future, Pittner said, he will issue an order to form special teams made of top experts to investigate unsolved cases, but he refused to reveal the names of the investigators or the cases they would be assigned to.
In related news, Pittner appointed General Vladimír Mitra as the new head of the Slovak secret service, the SIS. Mitro, who founded the SIS and led it during its early years, replaces Ivan Lexa in the job. Lexa was given the parliamentary mandate of former Premier Vladimír Mečiar on October 29. According to Slovak law, deputies are immune from prosecution during their terms in office.
