Volume of investments drops, number of investors rises

The number of foreign investors wanting to run business in Slovakia has been increasing, however, the volume of invested money is lower than last year.

Economists say the number of foreign firms coming to Slovakia will be much higher than it was last year. Shoemakers, producers of automotive parts and glass, together with entertainment parks promise to create new jobs and bring in their know-how.

Finish producer of elevator spare parts Kone Corporation is among investors who are focusing on regions with extremely high unemployment rates. If the firm decides to pour money to the Rimavská Sobota region, thousands of new jobs would be created.

Economists estimate that foreign direct investment of between €1.1 billion and €1.8 billion could flow to Slovakia this year.
