On February 7, Speaker of Parliament Pavol Paška again postponed the vote on the ratification of the Treaty of Lisbon, but this time indefinitely. For the third time, opposition parties SDKU-DS, KDH and SMK nullified the vote by vacating the House.
The opposition parties rationalise this as the best way to protest against the proposed Press Act. They also say that they're dissatisfied with the style of governing of the Cabinet led by Prime Minister Robert Fico. After the opposition parties boycotted the vote, there were only 80 out of 85 coalition MPs remaining in the House. The Treaty needs 90 votes in the 150-seat Parliament to pass. TASR
