Situations in which Slovakia's prime minister is unable to perform his duties due to health reasons are only partially addressed by Slovak law.
The procedure is less complicated if the prime minister is able to communicate.
In such cases, the prime minister can delegate authority to one of his or her deputy prime ministers. However, the prime minister can specify the extent and scope of powers to be delegated.
Neither the Constitution nor other laws specify how long such a situation can last. Slovakia, a parliamentary democracy, has already faced such an eventuality, in 2016 when the prime minister – at that time, the position was also occupied by Robert Fico – reportedly experienced acute coronary discomfort caused by a blocked artery.
