According to Michal Piško from the Sme daily, the Slovak government wants to increase the amount of energy coming from renewable resources mainly through new hydro-electric power plants.
However, many foreign investors are especially interested in wind power. Patrik Križanský from the Slovak Wind Power Association says that wind power could provide for over three percent of Slovakia's energy needs by 2013, although he warns that it will always be a supplemental form of energy and can not replace more traditional methods of power generation.
There are currently only three wind farms in Slovakia - in Senica (Trnava Region), Myjava (Trenčín Region) and Skalité (Žilina Region). The Environment Ministry is considering a further 25 wind-power projects, but mainly in western Slovakia.
