SLOVAKIA’S delegation of disabled athletes to the Winter Paralympic Games held in Sochi on March 7-16, will try to outdo their 11 medals in Vancouver four years ago, which placed them fourth in the overall table position in the final balance, the SITA newswire reported.
Slovak athletes will compete in all sports, except ice hockey for wheel-chaired athletes. Six visually impaired athletes with assistants and two physically handicapped athletes will compete in skiing. One of the favourites is Henrieta Farkašová who won three gold and one silver medal in Vancouver. Another favourite is Jakub Krako who won three gold medals last time.
Slovakia will also have athletes in biathlon, cross-country skiing, snowboarding and curling, a competition in which Slovakia finished fourth in the recent world championship.
“Curling in Slovakia has been played for only four years,” said captain Radoslav Ďuriš, as quoted by SITA. He however expects a surprise from the Slovak squad.
