Slovakia’s alpine ski racer Petra Vlhová has achieved her best result at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang. She finished fifth in the Ladies’ Alpine Combined Slalom on February 22, missing only 0.65 seconds for the bronze medal.
The race was won by Swiss skier Michelle Gisin, with a time of 2:20.90 in total. US racer Mikaela Shiffrin won silver after completing the race at 2:21.87, while third place Wendy Holdener from Switzerland finished it at 2:22.34. Fourth place Ragnhild Mowinckel from Norway crossed the finish after 2:22.63.
“I made mistakes that cost me a better time,” Vlhová told public-service broadcaster RTVS after the race.
Vlhová competed in the combined slalom for the first time in her career. After the first round, she was 13th. However, her second round was the second best in the whole race, which moved her up eight positions, the Sme daily reported.
Another Slovak, Barbara Kantorová, finished 18th.
