Slovakia wins its first match at the world championship

The national hockey team defeated its rivals from Austria.

Slovakia celebrates its first victory at the 2018 IIHF World Championship in Denmark after defeating Austria 4:2.

Slovak goals were scored Marek Haščák, Tomáš Jurčo, Christián Jaroš and Michal Krištof, while Brian Lebler and Peter Schneider scored for Austria.

Slovakia now has 4 points in the preliminary round.

The Slovaks are playing in group A of the preliminary round held in Copenhagen, Denmark, facing teams from Austria, Belarus, the Czech Republic, France, Russia, Sweden and Switzerland.

Based on current IIHF World Rankings, Slovakia is ranked 10th, while Austria is 17th.
