Slovaks end another championship match with a loss

The national ice hockey team did not defeat its rivals from Russia.

Slovaks did not repeat their surprising victory at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang, and lost the game against Russia at the 2018 IIHF World Championship in Denmark. The match ended 0:4.

Russian goals were scored by Maxim Mamin, Nikita Gusev, Maxim Shalunov and Ilya Mikheyev.

Slovakia has 8 points in the preliminary round and is fifth in its group. Despite the loss, it still has a little chance to advance to the quarter-finals if Switzerland does not win all 3 points in the game against France on May 15, the Sme daily wrote.

The Slovaks are playing in group A of the preliminary round held in Copenhagen, Denmark, facing teams from Austria, Belarus, the Czech Republic, France, Russia, Sweden and Switzerland.

Based on current IIHF World Rankings, Slovakia is ranked 10th, while Russia is 2nd.
